Students at Moi university main campus at Kesses on Friday, 11th October took to the streets to demonstrate. This quickly turned into an unrest when the police came to disperse them and try to protect university staff and property. The university senate swiftly circulated a memo that suspended all academic programs and ordered all to vacate the university hostels. The memo was signed by the deputy vice chancellor academics Isaac Kimengi.

They cited gross misconduct, destruction of property, harassment and injuring of university staff as the reason for the closure. The recall dates will be announced later.
The student’s reasons for the demonstrations included mismanagement of university funds, insecurity and hike in exam fees.
